Paige's People - Leonie Agyei

So, I have taken a little break from Paige's People, but we are back and this one is very special one, guys. Leonie is one of the most talented up and comers on the London busking scene and I had the privilege of interviewing her!

1. When do you start playing music?

I started playing the guitar at nine. My mum was a big influence in this decision. One day, she decided to ask my twin sister and I, whether we wanted to play the guitar or violin. This was an easy decision, I had to choose the guitar. There was just something about that instrument that drew my attention, plus, it’s a super cool instrument to play. From this moment onwards my creativity flourished. Honestly, If it wasn’t for decision my mother and I made twelve years ago, I wouldn’t be where I am. I thank my mum preaching the importance of artistry, and letting me know that art is just as much as important as intellect.

2. What is your favourite cover you have done?

As of now, my favourite cover to perform is the Best of you by the Foo Fighters. It's a crowd favorite and the response I get back is always positive. Not only that, but it holds special value for reasons I will now discuss. We all go through that phase as a teenager where we are experimenting with our music genres, and the Foo Fighters were one of the first rock bands I started listening to. This genre of music has shaped my sound tremendously. My indie, acoustic sound very much, so I draw inspiration from my teenage years.

3. Favourite colour?

Oh, now this is a difficult question to answer. Honestly, I don’t have a favourite colour as of yet. I would say that when I was younger I was hesitant to go anywhere near the bold, dramatic colours. However, as I’ve gotten older and my fondness towards fashion has grown, I’ll try and wear any colour. If it ticks all the boxes, you’ll definitely see me wearing it.

4. Biggest music inspirations?

Music holds a great amount of importance in my life. Having grown up listening to old school classics, country, soft rock, soca, reggae and so much more I’ve always had an ear for sound. Legends such Whitney Houston, U2, Oasis, Toni Braxton and so many more, have allowed me to fall in love with the art and depth behind the songs we hear on the radio. Listening to my mums old records, tapes and CD’s is really inspiring. Just hearing the raw sounds and instrumentation of the music puts a smile on my face. Music has changed so much from what it used to be, and for me, it is so important to remind myself of where my love for the arts came from.

5. Favourite city in the world?

My favourite city in the world, would one hundred percent have to be London. I’ve grown up here and London has opened my eyes up to so many opportunities and shaped me as a person. What London has taught me the most, is how to stay focused and commit to your goals. In this fast paced city, you are only as as successful as you choose to be. For the reasons, the city I call my home is my first choice.

6. Favourite drink?

Are we talking non alcoholic or alcoholic? I would have to say that my favourite non alcoholic drink is a chilled glass of tropical juice. On the other hand, if you ask me what my go to alcoholic beverage is, it would have to be a glass of rosè.

7. Main goal for 2018

One of my biggest goals for 2018 is to gain a larger presence in the social media world. I would really love for my social media platforms and blog to grow. I’ve always wanted to be my own boss and this begins with creating my vision which is my brand: Leonie Agyei. I would love to get to a position where my job takes me around the world, meeting and working with amazing people. Growing up, I was always unsure of what I wanted to do, but this year everything has fallen into place. I hope my art and passions can take me all the way.

8. If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would you meet?

If I could meet anyone, it would definitely have to be Jeff Goldblum not only is he a vibrant character. He has amazing style. I think we can all draw inspiration for him. He alone shows us that no matter what age you are shape, size and the list goes on, you can always be the best version of you. He’s bold with his fashion choices and exudes confidence, and I think that's how everyone should walk through life.

9. Dream destination?

I’ve always classed myself as a London girl, and have never considered leaving. However, as I’ve gotten older I’ve realised the creative industry is something I really want to go into. I could definitely see myself moving to The Big Apple, New York. There’s so many opportunities there for bloggers and creatives. I want to be immersed in the industry and surrounded by like minded people, and New York is just the place for that.
